アフリカのNGOでインターンをしたい！という学生さんが増えているようです。

アフリカ・ゼミのゼミ生も、ずいぶんたくましくなり、自分でインターン先を見つ
け、各自アフリカで研修するようになりつつあります。来年は、ケニアで活動
する日本のNGO:CanDoさんのところで半年間インターンに行くゼミ生が1名、
ウガンダのNGOに日本のNGO:NICE経由で行く予定にしているゼミ生が1名
います。基本的に、ゼミ生には、日本のNGOでまず半年以上インターンを経
験して、スキルアップをしてから行くように言っています。現地でヘルプする
よりも、ヘルプされることが多いので、先方NGOの少ないキャパを奪わない
ためです。現在、アフリカでのインターンを考えている学生さんは、是非まず
は日本のNGOでインターンをしてから挑戦してください。

さて、今日は、ゼミ生・元ゼミ生がインターン研修を終えたばかりのアフリカ
NGO（PELUM Association)でのインターン募集のお知らせです。あくまでも
情報提供です。条件・危険度等については、各自で責任を持って、先方とやり
とり＆判断してください。

ジンバブエはPELUM発祥の国だが、政治危機・経済危機から、本部がザン
ビアに移っているものの、ジンバブエ・オフィスも依然活動を継続している。

赤ちゃんが生まれたばかりの若いお母さんながら、ジンバブエのPELUM
を支えるため、頑張っている。

ウガンダやマラウィのPELUM事務所の日本人インターンの活躍を見て、ぜひ
日本の若者（学生可能）をインターンとして迎えたいと意気込んでいる。できれ
ば、1-2年いてほしいそうだが、交渉次第で半年のインターンも可能のよう。

宿などは、Berthaさんが手配してくれるそう。1か月150ドル。（1万5千円）
仕事は、主にBerthaさんの業務補佐、事務補佐、ファンドレージングのた
めのレポート書き。大体月330ドル（3万3千円）で食事・宿・オフィス・交通が

Terms of Reference for a Volunteer- PELUM College Manager

 

Resuscitation of PELUM College Zimbabwe

 

Duration 1-2 years (preferably 2 years )

 

Reporting: PELUM Zimbabwe Country Director

 

1. Introduction

PELUM Association is a regional network of over 200 civil society organizations (CSOs) in 10 countries in east, central and southern Africa, working in the area of participatory ecological land use management .The 10 countries are Botswana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Uganda, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

 

PELUM Zimbabwe is a network of over 25 member organizations that come together to facilitate learning, networking and advocacy in sustainable agriculture, natural resource management and household food security and its Country Desk that serves the members.. The member organizations strive towards reducing poverty by focusing on sustainable local community livelihoods and empowerment of smallholder farmers. The Country Desk coordinates joint programmes, facilitates networking for the members and enhances the capacities of member organizations so that they are able to provide relevant quality services to smallholder farmers taking into account Gender and HIV/AIDs is

 

PELUM Zimbabwe developed  a Strategic planning for the period 2008/9 to 2011 and one of the Strategic objectives is to facilitate training in Ecological Land Use Management by  resuscitating and ensuring  functioning of PELUM College Zimbabwe and offer short and longterm training in Ecological Land Use Management

 

2.Background PELUM  College Zimbabwe

PELUM College Zimbabwe is currently not functioning but PELUM Zimbabwe has initiated efforts to resuscitate it.

i) the college started operating in 1999.

ii) it had three intakes of  a total of 48 students between (1999-2004)

iii) was registered with the Ministry of Higher Education and Technology in 2002 offering a PELUM National certificate in Agro-Ecological Land Use Management and Community Development.

iv) the National certificate was running for 2 years as per the Ministry’s requirements for all national certificates.

v) Was initially targeted at the staff members of the PELUM Member Organizations however the last stream also included regional participants.

vi) was implemented in block system with three blocks, Eastern- (covering areas in Eastern districts of Zimbabwe),  Northern – (covering areas in Harare and surrounding areas), Southern/Western- covering southern and western regions of Zimbabwe. Students were moving from one block to another. Within that block they would be stationed at one institution and the trainers from the other institutions would come to that institution to train the students. The block system was implemented so that the trainees would have high quality training and be exposed to the work of a variety of organizations to make the training as practical as possible.

PELUM Zimbabwe would like to resuscitate the college and have the first intake September 2009.

 

 

3. Overall Responsibility

Fundraising and resuscitation of PELUM College with first intake of at least 20 students in September 1999.

 

4. Specific duties

-Ensure finalization of revision of the Syllabus

-Assess and ascertain capacity of member organizations in the Clusters that will be participating in the programme.

- facilitate signing  of Memorundum of Understanding between the Country Desk and the participating members.

- workout a fee structure for students

- work out the logistics for recruitment, and registration of students and facilitate recruitment of first intake of students.

- advertising of the college

-fundraise for scholarship for students/smallholder farmers and other activities necessary for resuscitation of PELUM College Zimbabwe

- Any other duties that may be allocated by the PELUM Zimbabwe Country Director to further the objectives PELUM Zimbabwe

 

5. Budget and Equipment

PELUM Zimbabwe has financial and human resources capacity constraint, therefore the volunteer would be required to cover the following costs and bring following equipment. PELUM Zimbabwe will be able to cover costs related to water bills, electricity and office space rentals.
